are you supposed to tip tattoo artist ?
so im thinking of getting a tattoo well another but the first ones i went it was friend of a friend but he passed away now.
when i find a tattoo artist are you supposed to give them a tip?
No, you don’t have to, and no it’s not expected. And 20-30% would be absurd! If you have a $1000 tattoo, are you really going to tip $200-$300? No, that’s stupid. And yes, as someone stated, a shop artist does give to the shop, but, they also make a lot more than minimum wage. Servers at restaurants don’t make minimum wage, that’s why they are tipped. Let’s use another’s reference: if you pay $100 for a tattoo, the artist only makes $40. That could very well be true, but, if you’re only paying $100 for a tattoo, it’s going to be an hour or less for that tattoo, which would equate $40 and hour for that tattoo artist. Do you make $40 an hour? Do many people make $40 an hour? No, they don’t. So many people insist that you give a 15-20% chance like you do at restaurants, but that’s crazy. If you get a $100 tattoo, slip them a 10 and be good with it. If you get a $500 tattoo, slip them a twenty and be good with it. Don’t think tattoo artists don’t make good money, because in reality, even shop artists who are established, with a great portfolio, make great money. The tips aren’t their income.
