Does it still matter which arm, left or right, you get a tattoo?

In the eighties when I was a kid if you go a piercing it had to be on the left because gay men wore piercings on the right. I want to get a tribal armband signifying the crown of Christ on my upper right arm. However while for me right signifies the side of God, does right still signify Gay in society?
