Thinking about getting a rib cage tattoo design inked on your body? In recent years the rib cage has become a very popular place to get tattoos done. However, it is not the easiest place to get a tattoo done. It can be painful and difficult for the artist to get the design just right.  That doesn’t mean that you should shy away from a rib cage tattoo but it does mean you should carefully consider what you want to get before jumping into it.
Rib Cage Tattoo Designs For Men
One of the most common designs for men is script or words. Typically either in old English or a super cool handwritten font with a lot of swills and additions to make it look like the Famous clothing company. Typically you want something that has a strong line and is a bold font. This is gaining quickly in popularity and if you have a word or short saying that has always held importance in your life then you might want to consider this tattoo. Other ideas men get are crosses, dragons, swords and even tribal designs.
Rib Cage Tattoo Designs For Women
Women of course have a lot of choices also. Many are getting text or sayings written in the area also. However they like longer texts like a poem or a font with swirls that looks more feminine. They typically choose fonts with a finer line and more detail to it than male designs. However, there are many other options such as flowers, cherry blossoms, Hawaiian hibiscus, and even swallows or old school nautical stars.
Important Considerations
Since the rib cage bones are close to the skin it is going to be pretty painful compared to other tattoo designs where there is more fatty tissue. So it is important to prepare yourself. That doesn’t mean freak out and skip the tattoo all together it just means plan it out carefully and follow these steps to reduce the pain level.
BREATHE – This is the most important want to work through pain keep your breathing at a constant and steady rate. Holding your breath and tightening your body up will only make it more painful. Breathe, stay calm and relax.
DISTRACTION – Bring something to keep your mind off of the pain and distracted. For most people the iPod is a magic tool and can really help. Bring some nice soothing and calm music like reggae or whatever relaxes you. Probably not a good speed metal time however.
TAKE A BREAK – Another option is to take a few short breaks during the session. Your artist probably wants to get the work done so he or she can move on to their next client. However, taken a minute or to break is something you can always ask for.
MULTIPLE SESSIONS – If it is too painful you can always do it in two or three sessions. Take a bit at a time and then stop and come back at it. Don’t try to be too brave or strong if it hurts you then it hurts so take it in sessions.Â
