Tattoo Touch Up Healing

How long should I wait after I get a tattoo to get it touched up?
Do I just need to wait about 2 weeks until it is healed up, or do I need to wait like a year? The place I went to did the coloring a little uneven, so do you think if I went back to them they would touch it up for free?
OK, the truth: No tattoo should NEED to be touched up. It really depends on how you care for it. And honestly, you need to wait about 2 months before getting it touched up. The tattoo takes 4-6 weeks to heal completely, so the longer you can wait to get it touched up the better. If you’re not healed completely, the artist won’t touch it. Call and ask some local shops, they’ll tell you it’s best to wait about 60 days. Most places I know of, myself included, have a 6 month guarantee on their tattoos. Rarely though, very rarely, do they need to be touched up. You may be seeing the effects of the healing process, thinking it is light in spots. If you’re only two weeks into it, the area is still healing, and the tattoo can take on many different faces during the healing process. Toward the end of the healing, when the skin regenerates its outer layer, it will appear faded, almost like a white cloud is over the tattoo. That is perfectly normal, it’s the new skin being generated. Wait it out, then worry about a touch up.
