Serran wrap on tattoo?

I got mine done, then the artist smacked some serran wrap on it and taped it on. When I got home it already slid off.
Why is this used as a bandage?
The next day when I wore tights to school I put A&D and a tissue over it so it wouldn’t get irritated.

Aftercare for tattooes vary from artist to artist. The saran wrap was just to keep the ointment on the inked area. Its only supposed to be left on there for a few hours, then can be removed which allows the area to breathe and begin healing. Try to only put a thin layer of your aftercare ointment on twice a day, once in the morning, and then after a shower in the evening, and no more covering it with tissue or a bandage Its going to dry out which is ok, because too much ointment will keep it from getting air and scabbing over, which is all a part of healing. It should start to itch in a few days, again…that’s a sign of healing, do not scratch it!! Slap at it to make the itching stop, don’t rub either. After it scabs over use some vaseline intensive care lotion with Vitamin e as a daily moisterizer and all should be ok. Also, no more tight fitted fabric on it, soft and loose is the way to go
