Pain Killer and tattoo?

I know this had been asked before but here it is again. I have a moderate to high tolerance to pain but am a freak about needles and usually work myself into a panic. Would taking a mild pain killer before hand help or would it be best to take a valium to just calm myself? This is my first and it is small, on my back shoulder, and there won’t be any black. I’ve heard most of the advice before but please anything extra about this specifically would be wonderful! Thanks in advance!
I know that alcohol and aspirin thin the blood and caffeine is just bad. But I don’t think a mild prescription pain med (for muscles) or Valium (for anxiety) would be as bad as straight aspirin in the blood thinning.

Personally, I wouldn’t pop any pills. Getting a tattoo is a life changing experience, and if you go in clean and sober, you will look back on the experience with so much more respect for yourself. The pain of a tattoo really is not that bad at all. Its actually annoying more than anything. It’s just that people build it up way too much in their head. If you have a fear of needles, don’t think of it as a needle. by the way, I freak out with needles too, like at the doctor, but it is not the same thing at all. Just think of it as an annoying, buzzing sharpie marker that they are drawing on you with.
Seriously, the day you get a tattoo, go eat a good meal beforehand, bring some hard candy to suck on (I don’t know why, but this seems to help 99% of people that come to my shop), and stay away from pain killers and alcohol. whether or not you take an anxiety pill is up to you, but I would advise against it as I truly believe it is not needed. go for the total experience, face your fears, and I gaurantee the second the tattoo machine touches your skin, you will let out a huge sigh and be like “that’s it? I was afraid of that?” good luck!
