If Obama raised the tax rate from a high of 35% to 50+% and demanded subsidized luxuries, would you libs riot?
Let’s say Obama decided to have tax rates of up to 70% and then demanded that taxpayers fund iPods, new steel rims, crates of champagne, hair transplants, tattoos for those who can’t afford to get them on the private market, would you protest? Because listening to the right-wingers here, you would swear that that was what Obama did. We’re talking public health care, a necessity found in all rich,democratic, free nations, e.g., Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Ireland, Norway, not publicly funded diamond rings or nose piercings, which are not necessities. A healthy society, one where people can afford to get quality, preventive care so that they nip it in the bud before requiring an expensive treatment at the ER or spread infection, is a more *productive* society, e.g., Japan, the Netherlands, etc. Affordable, preventive (not ER), quality care = not a luxury; new rims for an Escalade = a luxury. Big difference!
