Tattoo Ideas for Men Ribs
tattoo quote location question?
I’ve been looking long and hard for a tattoo that represents my love and respect for everyone involved in the military (everyone on every side of my family, and that on my boyfriend’s were/are in the military). I’ve chosen “And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.” by Lee Greenwood.
My question is, I’m unsure as to where I want to get it. I’ve already got a tattoo planned for my upper and lower back. I’d rather not get a tattoo on my torso or rib cage and my profession looks down upon having visible tattoos on your arms.
I was thinking maybe down the outside of my thigh, almost like a poem format. Would that be a bad position?

Text can make a very lovely tattoo and the outside of a thigh is a good choice. It is large enough to accomodate tattooed text without wrapping or distorting too much. Flatter areas on the body work best for text, in my opinion.
You can spruce it up by adding some illustrative elements like a helmet, boots, an eagle or laurel. Text is limited by how small it can be tattooed due to the expansion of ink inside your living skin, however, and you might be happier with the first line only of the poem due to the size it would have to be as a tattoo to last over time.
The simplier the font or writing style, the smaller it can be made. Old English text, for example, would be too fancy to be done small enough to fit on the thigh as a lasting piece. Always think how best the tattoo can be made to weather all the changes the years of your life will bring to the location. Thighs are very stable “canvasses” for this reason – minimal change over life.
A creative artist could even do an illustration in front with the writing done in negative in the background skin behind such as an American flag with a sky behind it with the poem done in the clouds.
