Tattoo Careers
Gone are those days where one can find people in their 40s with nearly 15 years of experience in Perl or Python.
Present dynamic nature of evolving technologies, requires one to switch technologies quite often. A person with ten plus years of experience may not be good as a young chap with decent training in Ruby or J2EE. At the end of the day the knowledge on a particular technology matters rather than once experience.
However experience makes a person mature in handling complex tasks and resolving issues. But this can be compromised for bright young talent on newer technologies guided by managers with little or no experience in the technology of concern.
This working model (especially of IT companies in India ) of going for bright young talent guided by managers works well at least for Service companies, where innovation and individual’s stuff is not a big concern. Successful delivery of the project or task in time is what that is required at the end of the day.
IT companies in India seem to be more comfortable with this working model, relying heavily on less experienced guided by handsome managers. In effect this saves cost for the company while ensuring the work is done in time.
This is an alarming trend for those concerned about long term career goals. They may not have a ground to grow in a steady manner in this dynamic environment. We will have to wait and see what furure has to offer as far as careers in IT in India are concerned.
