Tattoo Care Aquaphor
tattoo healing not going well? HELLLPPP!!!?
I got a tatto two weeks ago almost to the day and i have been using Aquaphor and a lotion and dove unscented sensitive skin soap to wash it.
Its on the side of my foot and I was told not to wear shoes for a week.My artist did not bandage it so i made my own for when it was an absolute must to wear shoes. But it still hasnt peeled yet, it is a phrase and it looks like only one word has healed and the other words still look and feel a bit scabby, is something wrong?
My sister in-law and a friend who both have tattoos told me it should have peeled by now… I am a bit freaked and now live three hours from my artist
I just want to know what i am doing wrong to take care of it
also how do i know when i can go swimming.
The longer you can wait for swimming, the better (within limits), especially if that implies being in the sun. With no sun, wait at least a month.
Tattoos on the foot heal oddly; some artists don’t like to do feet or other extremities precisely for that reason. It’s not necessarily that they heal badly, but they vary more than other areas in how they heal.
In your case, it sounds like it’s taking twice as long (or longer) to heal. It might be due to too much lotion, or maybe it’s that extremities don’t get as much blood flow as other areas, or the thickness of the skin there, or… something else.
I’d just keep going, and not hit the water until after at least two weeks of it looking normal. That may take a while. You can toss a few questions by your artist in the meantime.
