Tattoo Background Shading

Coloured shading over a black tattoo?
This is probably a really stupid question! But if I have a black writing tattoo that is too detailed to be shaded around, would it be possible to have a pale colour shaded over it and it still show through so the colour appears to be in the background – or would I need the black redone afterwards?
amber – I am okay thank you. I just miss her and get days where I can’t believe there can’t be some way of talking to her. Then other days I think, everybody else has to wait and I’m no different. I’m going to leave it a few months and then see about going to a medium. But I know the majority are con artists, and to be conned into believing something false would be worse than anything, so I am still thinking about it. Thank you for your thoughts
Not absolutely certain what you are getting at but when I do a color pieces, which most of my work is and you have seen some of my work, every one of them is always first a complete black and gray piece. I do all of my black work and gray wash prior to adding any color. This is a technique I used that give my work a more defined realistic and 3d appearance.
So, if you are asking if you can add color over your piece to bring it to life, you most assuredly can. Before I even ad a single drop of color to any piece I do it is already a completed black and gray piece. The black or dark undertones is what truly gives my work its definition.
