Tattoo Apprenticeship Cost

tattoo artist advice?

I have my heart set on being a tattoo artist
I love art and design and am taking it in college in september!
i have a steady hand and am good at shading etc. I also plan on getting a sleeve when I hit 18!

but I’m really bad at academic subjects such as maths, science, etc.
although I’ve just got a B in English!
and a distinction in btec art!

so I’m nearly 17, and would just like some advise on how to get started and how much apprenticeships cost etc. !
I live in North East England!

if you’re a tattooist, how did you get in to it?
thanks :)

Going to school for art is a great start. your academic subjects don’t really matter.
get a portfolio of you art work together and go to different tattoo shop’s asking if the have any openings for an apprenticeship. you will hear a lot of no’s but keep it up until you get a yes if this is really what you want to do.
Once you get a shop to take you on. you will have to pay a fee and it depends on the shop how much they will charge you and where from $1000 to $5000 if the general rate here in the US.
You main job will be cleaning the shop, stocking the artists station, answering phone’s, booking appointments, running errands. those type of thins and the artist will work with you on drawing and teach you the basic gun work, you will practice a lot on fake skin and it will be at least a year before they let you work on a real person.
good luck
