If u sing a song & post it on Youtube, are u violating copyrights?

Like for example, if i sang tattoo by Jordin Sparks, is that violating copyrights? Or is it okay as long as u say it’s by that artist? Thanks.

yes, and you don’t need to credit anyone. as long as you’re the one singing it, it’s technically a cover version.

you can’t legally say you wrote it, but you don’t have to say who did or anything like that. covers and parodies are all legally protected. that’s how guitar hero and rock band get away with putting songs on their game without permission — most are cover versions by tribute bands.
