Harry Potter Help: Dark Mark In the Books?
I’m more of a HP movie fan, rather than the books (as much as I’ve tried to be a fan of both), so I’m gonna need help from those of you who are big fans of the book, and tell me which book and chapter the following subject is in.
I’m looking for the description of the “dark mark”, the tattoo, if you may, on the left forearm of the Death Eaters. I’ve seen various descriptions from several sources, but I’d rather see the description for myself. So for those of you who are familiar with the HP book series and have free time to answer, please, I’d really appreciate your help.
Which book(s) – including the chapter, or better yet, page if you can – is the description of the “dark mark” in?
By description, I would be referring to any in-detal descriptions, like size, placement, color, and anything else that can further make the image clear in one’s mind. Thanks in advanced to anyone who provides any helpful answers.

The description of the dark mark is in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Chapter Nine: The Dark Mark. In my hardcover edition, the description begins on page 128. This is during the Quidditch World Cup and the riots that happened at the camps after the game. “Something vast, green, and glittering erupted from the patch of darkness…it flew up over the treetops and into the sky….[Harry] realized it was a colossal skull, comprised of what looked like emerald stars, with a serpent protruding from tis mouth like a tongue. As they watched it rose higher and higher, blazing in a haze of greenish smoke, etched against the black sky like a new constellation.”
Later in Chapter Nine (page 141) the kids ask about the mark. Mr. Weasley tells them the mark hasn’t been seen in 14 years. “The terror it inspired…you have no idea, you’re too young. Just picture coming home and finding the Dark mark hovering over your house, and knowing what you’re about to find inside…Everyone’s worse fear…the very worst…”
