How to Pick a Foot and Ankle tattoo
Without question, ankle and foot tattoos are a trendy choice among women today. This distinctive and sought out design can make for the perfect accent piece and looks great during the spring and summer months of the year, although choosing this style does present small fears specific only to ankle and foot tattoos.
The most important of which is being that it takes some additional time for your foot and ankle to fully heal, as long as four weeks. The biggest potential problem being that the foot is frequently moving about. Shoes, flip flops, or other sandals are likely to rub in places, making the healing of ankle and foot tattoos kind of dodgy, and sometimes requiring a minor touch up or two if the tattoo gets rubbed too much.
Ideally, ankle and foot tattoos need be inked during the warmer seasons of the year, or even better, a time and place where you can just go barefoot for a few weeks. If you have an outside job, that method just isn’t practical, but with a few extra measures your new tattoo will do just fine.
Topless sandals are great, weather permitting, and economical offering the right selection for protecting your new ankle and foot tattoo, although I can’t say that I’ve actually tried these remarkable gravity defying soles.
All you really need to do is use a little common sense. Wear comfortable, loose fitting footwear, and keep overly physical activities to a minimum. It is also recommended that you further care for the new tattoo with a thin coating of Vaseline, followed by a sheet of glad wrap, then socks and shoes, if you are going to be overly active.
Another potential issue to watch out for is an infection. It’s a fact that feet get dirtier than other areas of the body, especially with a sticky coating covering them. With a little special care this is simply avoided by merely keeping your ankle or foot cleaned and protected, although this will have to be done more frequently than with other types of tattoo placements.
Because of the very thin layer of skin covering bone, tattoos on the feet or ankle could be slightly more painful than other places of the anatomy. The pain is relative to each person, but the more common response is that it only hurts somewhat more than other tattoos.
If you are merely considering or have already decided on a foot or Ankle Tattoo, there are a few extra things that you should know about. The foot loses and replenishes skin cells much quicker than any other region of the body (exfoliation), sometimes removing ink particles in the process. Some retouching will most likely be needed periodically to preserve the original image, but the work will not be extensive if followed up on.
And finally, as with all thin skinned areas of the body, such as ankle and foot tattoos, a higher skill level and experience from the artist is vital. Examine your artist’s portfolio, specifically looking for pictures of foot and ankle tattoo work, and don’t be afraid to inquire about their credentials.
If done incorrectly by a inexperienced tattoo artist, the image may scab off, or find way into the blood stream if too deep; both results unacceptable when having an ankle or foot tattoo done. One last note… don’t forget the sun protection when outdoors.
