Are the Girl with the Dragon tattoo books any good?
I was wondering if they’re at least more challenging to read than crap like Twilight? No offense Twilight fans. Are they more advanced and do they deal with more mature subjects? In other words should I buy this for my 15 year old son who doesn’t like to read much?
Twilight and its sequels are romances aimed at 12 year old girls. The Millennium trilogy are complex crime thrillers aimed at adults. So yes, obviously they’re a more challenging read, and yes, of course they deal with more mature subjects.
They’re not teen/young adult books, so they don’t deal with teen/young adult themes.
I really enjoyed them, but I’m a 34 year old woman who enjoys Nordic crime fiction in general. Whether your 15 year old son will like them is another matter entirely. Personally, I think a 15 year old is past the point where they need ‘age-appropriate’ reading so I wouldn’t have any problem with a 15 year old reading them. But that doesn’t mean he’ll enjoy them, necessarily. It will depend entirely on what sort of boy he is and what he’s interested in. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same books, no matter how well they sell.
Personally, I’d let him choose his own books rather than trying to push them under his nose. Nothing puts a teenage boy off something like having his parents try to force it upon him.
